Water safety
The safety of water has our highest priority. An extensive part of the Netherlands lies below sea level. This makes our country vulnerable. The North Sea flood of 1953 has been the inducement for building the Delta constructions, including the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier. The Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier protects our country against floods. This complex and unique construction project made the Netherlands internationally famous in the field of water management.
